Prototypes for the Jeep Recon are appearing on Michigan roads and we give you the best looks yet in these photos.

We caught multiple Recon prototypes, previewing the EV off-roader in three colors—silver, black, and a vibrant blue. Only minimal disguise on the Jeep’s “grille” and D-pillars keep us from a fully-exposed, production-ready look at the Recon’s exterior. All lighting looks showroom-ready.

The Recon maintains the exposed hinges and removable doors, making for a nice tie in with the Wrangler’s open-air vibes. The prototypes are all running on Nexen Roadian ATX tires, which were sized at 285/70R17 on the Jeep Recon concept shown to dealers.

The Recon rides on Stellantis’ STLA Large architecture, which also underpins the Jeep Wagoneer S EV. Stellantis execs have suggested that the Recon (and Wagoneer S) could also be powered by internal combustion, depending on customer preferences, but all three prototypes spotted here are EVs.

The Jeep Recon is slated to begin production later this year, with sales commencing in early 2025.

Well, that will definitely work for me! Hard to leave behind a Wrangler after all these years, but excited to try the Recon!

Thanks so much for sharing. Getting a little discouraged at how little info and coverage we have on this so any tidbit of new content is welcomed. Looks decent but will require a little tuning to make it a little less bland.

Well that is nice to see! With all the chatter about EV manufacturing scaling down generally in light of economic factors, I was worried this vehicle may not have made it to market. I guess there could still be surprises but clearly they are planning some sort of imminent reveal.

Now I get to move on to wondering about trim packages and after-subsidy pricing. :)

Additional details on Mopar Insider.
https://moparinsiders.com/caught-all-electric-2025-jeep-recon-moab-4xe/?

According to our sources the Recon will use Stellantis’ G2500 Electric Drive Modules (EDMs), delivering outstanding performance. The dual G2500 EDM setup will offer between 450 and 600 horsepower with standard four-wheel-drive (4×4). These are the same EDMs used on the new Dodge Charger Daytona R/T and Scat Pack.
The Recon will be powered by a 400-volt architecture at launch, with future upgrades potentially leveraging Stellantis’ advanced EV technologies.
Initially, the Recon will come with a single-speed transmission, but Stellantis has patented an innovative multi-speed EV transmission called the “eRupt.” While this advanced gearbox will debut on the 800-volt Dodge Charger Daytona SRT Banshee, it could eventually find its way into off-road-focused vehicles like the Recon.

Our sources have also indicated that the new Recon will debut with three trims, each catering to different needs:
  • Willys – Entry-level model offers tough and rugged style with a nod to classic Jeep heritage.
  • Overland – A perfect for those who mix adventure with luxury.
  • Moab – This model is designed for hardcore off-roaders, featuring 17-inch wheels, rugged 285/70R17 Nexen Roadian ATX tires, and a slight lift for added ground clearance.
