(My question refers to US dealerships) What all did you have to fill out and/or sign when you reserved your 4runner? I think this might vary by dealer (and possibly by state) but I'm not sure.

How much was your deposit and is it refundable?

Were you forced to accept use of Toyota financing and fill out a loan application?

Was there a signed agreement on out-the-door price?

Might also be dependent on state legislation (what they’re allowed to do). I’m in CA and had put a refundable $500 deposit with 3 dealers. When the car arrives I need to pick it up within 3 days or I automatically get my deposit back and lose my reservation.

Before I put in the deposit I got the spec sheet with the out the door price. Financing is not part of this because rates change so when it becomes closer to the pick up date of the car I can decide if I want to go with Toyota financing or a different lender.

For myself, in order to reserve the truck I just had to put a $1,000 dollar deposit down. That along with a verbal agreement was all that I needed. Later on I did go back and get a purchase and sale agreement, just because with the looming tariffs I was nervous and really wanted to lock it down.
The deposit is refundable.

It's all over the place varying dealer to dealer in Colorado. One dealer had a non-refunable $1500 deposit (did not do that), one had a refundable $500 deposit (which I did and got refunded), and the dealer I went with did a $1000 refundable deposit.

As far as what I signed was just some document that had the VIN, my info, the deposit amount and it showed Toyota financing (22%) but was not an agreement to use it (I ended up using my bank at 5.2%)

I had a similar experience in Colorado. Originally, paid a $500 deposit with a dealer and signed an "out the door" price sheet for an SP. Then found the trim I really wanted (an ORP) and switched to the new dealer, paying $1,000 and signed an "out the door" price sheet. The ORP is due in today. I'm still waiting for the return on my original deposit, after two weeks, and have had to nag them quite a bit. It is annoying but I expect to get the money back because the two dealers are under the same franchise.

Sounds like mine, Stevenson West $500 and Stevenson East $1000. Stevenson West did refund mine after a few days of nagging.

Same deal and same dealers. I'm, literally, getting the same 4Runner as you from the same place.

At Kalispell Toyota in Montana, I put down a $500 refundable deposit and then had certain PIO's removed and a few added. All agreed to via email. I travel often and the sales manger said they would hold the vehicle for me (as I reserved it) until I was back in town, if it showed up when I was gone.

They have been transparent and great to work with thus far. Expect they still have no clue as to when the TRD Pro will actually arrive. It's slated for delivery to them tomorrow (4.4), but they said they don't know when it will arrive, until the delivery truck pulls into their parking lot. A bit strange to me, but what do I know!

My original deposit is with a dealership here in Virginia for $500 and is refundable. As the trailhunters started being allocated I noticed that all of them were not the color I want. So I started searching in other states and put down a refundable deposit of $1000 in another state. I did not sign anything at either place but the out of state dealer said I have to finance with them (which is fine because I plan on refinancing it with my bank).

I found the 4R I wanted used Toyota's online inventory/ Smart Path. Dealer contacted me within minutes. Got out the door price plus document fees ($250) w/ signed contract. $1k down ½ is refundable if I back out full refund if something else should go wrong.

I emailed the dealer and asked if the truck was available. He said yes. I told him I’d take it. He said ok. Would not take a deposit. I tried. Picking the truck up tomorrow.

I just had to text my local sales guy which trim/color/etc. I wanted. $500 deposit fully refundable. Servco Hawaii. If you know Hawaii, there's a long list of people waiting behind you should you decide to get your deposit back and cancel.

I think that’s why my dealer didn’t require a deposit. There’s plenty of buyers waiting behind me if I wanted to back out.
