I know many people have complained about CarPlay not connecting/disconnecting from their car. Apple released a patch yesterday that should fix it, you just need to go update your phone.

I don't yet have my 4Runner so I don't know if this fixes it (it should, I don't know why it wouldn't) but if you're having issues, take the 10 minutes to update and you should be good to go.

I have only used Apple CarPlay 2 or 3 times but did not notice a disconnect issue. I am applying the V18.4.1 update now and will read the release notes.

I do however choose to use CarPlay over a "wired" connection and not the Bluetooth/WiFi combination. I do this because I want to put my iPhone on the car's WiFi hotspot and you cannot have CarPlay and a hotspot connection simultaneously. Its possible that using a cable, I would not have had the issues others are reporting.

Yeah, from what I saw, it was really just a wireless issue. I think some were having a wired issue but it was very few and far between

I wonder if I should try wireless car play again and the hotspot. I seem to doubt it will work but might try.

Ok on 3 starts this morning in different locations (including in my garage where my phone is still connected to home wifi) it connected IMMEDIATELY and all 3 times flawlessly. This was definitely not the case on 18.4. Fingers crossed that this really fixed it for good

I tried connecting CarPlay wirelessly but as suspected, you cannot use the Phone's Wi-Fi and CarPlay simultaneously. So, I am back to a cable which free's my phone to be on any Wi-Fi I want.

I know, this is not exactly the symptom that seems to have been resolved but I was hoping. Seems like (as stated in another thread) CarPlay takes over your phone's Wi-Fi and requires it to work unless you use a cable.

Yes, wireless Carplay requires an active WiFi connection.

I just looked at your location and it made me smile....
For what it's worth, I work for a large tech company (whose products you are probably using to read this) and they require all of our devices to be updated to the newest iOS releases as soon as they drop, I have not had any Carplay issues.
