With the tariffs looming and being number 3 on the wait list for my new TRD Pro decided to reach out from the allocation list. Well, I found out after reaching out to the dealers not going above MSRP things have changed all 5 dealers within 200 miles said they were MSRP until I wanted to buy, and they all came up with an extra PPF or some other charge from 3k to 5k. Another issue was they could not tell me if the tariff would be implemented since the arrival date was mid May to June. Is anyone else having the same issues I wanted a mud bath and almost went for a color I would have regreted paying 75K for so maybe it was meant to be the purchase was a want not a need and I think I will be purchasing a GX550 now since the dissatisfaction of Toyota dealers trying to rake me over the coals. Thoughts?

Hi, I want to share my experience with the Gx 550 overtrail to you so you can be on the look out. I drove two , one a 2025 and a used 2024. There was an unusual vibration when driving both. Like a washboard vibration coming from the vehicle. We asked the dealer about it and he was familiar with what we were talking about but gave us no answer on why it was happening. He suggested we drive the used one in the lot. Same thing happened. I did research on it and found that quite a few others were complaining about this as well. From what I can gather from others it seems to be coming from the suspension. There is a really helpful forum out there that you can look into for more info.
Now I did not drive lower grade models like the premium or premium plus but just want to let you know so you can be on the look out. We ended up not going with the Lexus gx overtrail because of this common issue.

I’m waiting on TRD Pro Mudbath delivery from a dealer that has so far been very accommodating. Had to go outside my local area by several hours. Not sure of your location, but I’d extend your search to other dealers and find an MSRP dealer.

In my experience, GX 550 OT is not the answer. I recently sold my 2024 GX 550 OT+ with 342 miles on it. Built Dec 2024. It was a nice vehicle, with a nice power train. The drive was good but the ride was different. Seemed jittery at low to moderate speeds. The driver seat was more confined (narrow) than my 2024 Trailhunter Tacoma. The heated seats were not good, same for heated steering wheel, upgraded ML stereo was clear but not really an upgrade compared to JBL in my Tacoma. The nice GX 550 V6 power train came with an MPG cost as well, but for me it was worth the cost had the drive experience been exceptional.

Overall my wife and I much preferred the Trailhunter Tacoma driving experience, but wanted one vehicle that could do everything from hunting trips, to family vacations, and be my daily work vehicle. The 4Runner TRD Pro seems to be the right combination….for us.

Lots of complaints with the GX550. It's a capable vehicle, but seems to be having 1st year production issues. Common complaints are rough ride (especially on the luxury/+), easily cracked windshields, rough downshifts with the transmission, brake squeal (acknowledged by Lexus TSB), hood flutter, weak heated seats (mostly in the massage seat versions), and poor airflow (most settings hidden within touchscreen interface, like s-flow).

Man, if you think that Toyota dealers are adding $$ to the MSRP on the backend...Wait until you show up somewhere that actually has a 550. Lexus dealers are something else :D

You are probable right I think I will let the dust settle and see what happens with these tariffs. I am still number 3 at my local dealership which is a MSRP dealer but may just have to wait a little longer.

trd pro starting price 67k? with 87 octane
gx550 ot starting price 74k with 91 octane (remember the gx550 doesnt come in hybrid vs the trd pro)

but i am guessing you need to bump up the the gx550 ot+ to get the same level of equipment as the trd pro, havent really dont the direct compare.

i do know on the limited/platinum you have to jump up the the gx550 prem or closer to the prem+ depending on options to be equal to the limited or platinum

limited starting price is 56k / 60k hybrid
platinum starting price is 63k (only comes in hybrid)

gx550 prem starting price 66k (comparable to a limited)
gx550 prem+ starting price 70k (comparable to a platinum)

but thats just me, i cant see the cost justification for a gx for what i can get a 4R that is close.

The dealer just called me back and wants to take off the 3k for PPF and now wants me to get an extended warranty they are trying to find anything to make some extra cash. I feel they will be in a bind once tariffs hits so they are trying to get as much as possible while they can.
