I wish they would put in the new porsche electric macan Augmented heads up display and remove the normal display.
If heads up is added, I would like to see that as an option. My previous vehicle had heads up and I turned it off. I found it distracting. I prefer a clear view out of my windshield, especially when driving through scenic areas.

I previously thought a HUD was a gimmick, but I finally have a vehicle that has one. Took me only minutes to get used to it and now I love it. But it is superfluous and wouldn’t cause me to get a higher level trim for that feature. Let top dogs get that and pay for it… not me.

I’m happy to pay for it. I’m frustrated that even a $90k Rivian doesn’t offer it. Has made me not buy a Rivian, buy a PHEV instead and keep waiting and watching.

My Volvo has a very nice one, only speed and lane assist on/off. It will do basic directions also. I’m sad Scout won’t have one as I’ve actually gotten used to it

The Kia EV9 and Cadillac Lyric have pretty cool display.

I have a Sportage PHEV that I love. The displays are great. Also, the integration of the blind spot camera view in the dash while using the turn signals is helpful. KIA has gotten a lot of things right these last few years.

I like the new Porsche Augmented heads up display, with that setup, you don’t need all these screens

Someone with actual software management expertise is going to have to comment on this. While I agree with your sentiment the fact that no car manufacturer to my knowledge allows this suggests that it is more complex or prone to malfunctioning than it appears on the surface.

I don’t have software expertise but I do know that the display screen on modern boats is nearly 100% configurable. You can choose what data is displayed and where on the screen it should go. On some of them it is a simple as drag and drop and resize by grabbing the corner. I frequently set up 2or3 screens to choose from with a different layout/data that applies to what I need for the trip. Bottom line the tech exists and is used to present much more complex data than a car.
