…I just wanted to let you all know that I’m taking my ball and going home….

Sorry, but I appreciate and understand we all have thoughts and feelings and make decisions based on wants and needs within our microcosmic reality. It’s the presumption that their reasoning aligns with mine and what, I or others should follow suit and bail?

I do have to call BS on the one who started this thread. Scout, like all car makers, will have a lease option so you won’t have to plop down $50K. And you shared a lot about why you bailed, but nothing about what you settled for…hmmm.

LOL We already canceled. But why would you buy people‘s reservations when you could just put another reservation in? Are they limiting reservations per person??
We get it, you are out. Hope you find something but the overwhelming majority here are not out and therefore looking forward to what the future holds for Scout.

Yes they are limiting reservations to 2 per person... and making a reservation at this point would probably place you around the 75k place in line which will probably take them at least a year to get to after the first orders

Hopefully Scout will do a better job than Ford on this. Reservation number had zero to do with when you actually got your Bronco.

Directly from Scout Motor’s website: (Notice the Traveler has dropped from 10,000 pounds when it was first announced to 7,000 pounds already.)

“Scout Motors projects a maximum towing capacity of over 10,000 lbs. for the Terra™ truck and over 7,000 lbs. for the Traveler™ SUV.”

From an interview from Scout’s spokesperson: (Notice it says **UP** to!)

“However, towing capability will be substantially less for Harvester models than for all-electric models, Keogh indicated. He said the plug-in hybrids would tow up to 5,000 pounds, compared to 7,000 pounds for all-electric versions of the Traveler SUV and 10,000 pounds for the Terra pickup. That's likely due to the choice of LFP battery chemistry, which is less able to produce bursts of power when called upon like NMC chemistry. When asked to confirm why the Harvester models drop tow capacity Scout spokesperson Kathy Graham told Green Car Reports, ‘Scout Motors confirms projected towing of over 7,000 pounds for the Scout Traveler and over 10,000 pounds for the Scout Terra, both with nearly 2,000 pounds of payload.’ “

So, when you say that towing numbers aren’t confirmed, sort of. They keep lowering it from when they first announced it. Is that what you mean by they haven’t confirmed it yet?? I’m happy for the people who don’t need it to tow. We have an old Airstream that we remodeled all by ourselves, so we need to have that towing capacity. I think you non-towing people will like the regular Terra and Traveler. I think when it comes time to be delivered, that a lot of people are going to drop the Harvester version. Just my prediction. That’s all.
I understand your requirements on towing. My only point is that for $100 why not just wait and see? No requirement to buy a Scout as you can always cancel your reservation but for the low reservation cost there is nothing to lose, no risk at all. Just let it ride.

Best case towing numbers for production change in the right direction for your needs. Worst case they don't and you cancel your reservation. Currently all specs are guidance based targets as no production rated vehicle has been assessed yet.

I am not sure if I will follow thru on my reservation or not, depends on several factors, final price, towing capacity, trim options, and service availability here in NorCal. But as a day 1 reservation holder I will just wait and see what develops down the road, $100 is pocket change and well worth it to hold my place in line in case the stars align and it all works out.

I also cancelled both of my reservations but for a different reason since I do not use my vehicle for towing. In the end it will be too expensive. Hopefully the new Scout will be much more reliable than the first ones ever produced.

I am getting too accustomed to the cheap lease deals on EV's and cannot see myself ever plopping down $50K+ for a vehicle again. I just leased a 2025 Nissan Ariya for $98/mo with nothing down for 3 years. Even with my $1,700 drive off fees (tax, first payment, dealer handling, etc) that is only $5,228 to drive an EV for three years. I could repeat the process 10 times and barely reach the $50K threshold. I know the future lease deals on EV's won't be as favorable to consumers as they are right now.
I hear you - I'm driving an EV6 right now that I leased for $180 per month, going to be a tough pill to swallow converting that to a $700+ per month car payment. I have both a Scout and Rivian R2 reserved, I might just cancel both of them and lease another EV6 or Ioniq 5 next year.

I 100% agree, and I think that is the point of a reservation to see what develops should it be good and you don't want to wait too long and have the option to purchase. Keep in mind in the past many reservation releases do allow holders to delay order/delivery to fit your schedule we might be able to defer if there is a need.

Well... Sign me up for the ‘wait and see’ group. Final pricing, configuration and competitive alternatives would all play in to a future go/no-go decision. Might consider switching to the BEV version based on the projected (equivalent) mpg of the Harverster… sort of an oxymoron, as my range anxiety diminishes, but there’s the over-landing… decisions, decisions.

Because Scout dropped the 10,000 pound towing capacity to 5,000 pounds for the Harvester, I canceled both of our reservations. We had one in for the Traveler Harvester, and one in for the Terra Harvester.
If you come out with a retro or heritage model of the Scout where the entire roof comes off and it looks like the old-school Scout, and it tows 10,000 pounds, then we will be back.
None of the original Scouts were rated to tow 10K.

I am keeping my Harvester reservation for now, but also seriously intrigued by the new Slate which is targeting 2026 for production. I don’t need more than 3K towing which my FJ can handle. The Slate would be a commuter rig in SUV form (“Weekender”) with custom wrap to support my business.

We love doing laps around the USA with a trailer.
Want to do it with an EV.

Leaving Tinseltown, scratching the surface of America so different from So Calif., so fantastic, a whole different culture full of genuine people and amazing places to visit.

7K towing minimum.

I'm keeping my reservation and just bought a 2025 Ranger Raptor to enjoy until we get more clarity on the Scout's release and pricing. If things don't turn out so well then I'll just cancel my reservation. I am hoping that Scout does produce something that people love and can afford to buy. We shall see.
